Road Test Update
Review
Subject: Kasea
Adventure Buggy, a Chinese Import
Importer: Kasea Motorsports, Seattle, WA.
Distributor: Stovall & Co. "Amed"
Austell, GA
We bought seven karts, one
customer had their kart for only one day returning it to us
demanding their money back. Another dissatisfied customer
returned their kart to be sold by us on consignment.
The following problems
occurred on our first kart sale on the first day's use!
Customer complaints:
1. The entire exhaust system broke and fell off. In doing so
an exhaust pipe bolt broke off in the engine.
2. The drive chain would not stay taught, made loud
"popping" sounds as it jumped over the drive
sprocket.
3. The tail light plastic holder melted around the bulb and
stopped working.
4. The headlights stopped working.
5. Customer complained the brakes were sticking.
Aside from the tail light
we were able to remedy the above complaints.
We designed and built a
bracket which attached to the muffler and secured it to the
frame. We redesigned the brackets holding the drive chain,
replaced their drive system adjustment bolt to a lug nut.
These two efforts worked well and solved the problem of the
chain jumping over the axle drive sprocket.
In addition to the above we
were advised by Kasea to open the container for the electrical
components and secure them to prevent shorting.
We changed the rear tires
from 18x9.50-8 to 18x11-8 Badland to provide the kart better
stability and traction.
There is not enough room to
use the foot activated recoil starter, a back-up system if the
electric starter fails.
In our opinion, aside from
the rear tire size, safe use of the kart was not adversely
effected as most of the complaints could be resolved. We
advised owners to be careful of the terrain they encounter as
the frame pan where their feet are positioned is very close to
the ground. In some instances this pan area had indentations
resulting from contacts with ground objects.
During one of our recent
kart evaluations we filmed four different brand karts.
1. Murray Adult Sized Full Suspension.
2.Yerf-Dog Model 3200 Full Suspension
3. Kasea Adventure Buggy Full Suspension.
4. Carter Model 1736. An older kart in like new condition. No
suspension.
We filmed two driving
functions, a slalom steering comparison using pylons
as a course and the braking distance required to bring
the kart to a complete stop after attaining full speed.
Imagine our surprise, during the braking test to have
the Kasea brake pedal break off at a wield point! In
fairness, we attribute this failure on the driver's
excessive pressure on the brake pedal in order to stay
competitive.
A problem did occur with
two different customers that is a concern to us. Loss of
steering. The cause, according to the customers viewpoint, may
be correct. Should one front steering wheel contact the ground
while the other steering wheel is off the ground, the tie rod
attached to the wheel striking the ground first will cause the
center steering wheel frame bracket to bend, allowing the rack
and pinion steering components to go out of adjustment
resulting in an immediate loss of steering control. |
